If you are ready to take control and unleash all that is possible in your life, you are in the right place. And now your host, Certified Life Coach, Temetria McVea.

Henry James said, "It's time to start living the life you've imagined."

Hi y'all. Welcome, or maybe, welcome back if you listened to the trailer of The Project You Podcast - Unleashing the Possibilities of Your Life. I know that's a long title for a podcast, but it really does capture everything I want this podcast to be. I want it to be about you, and everything that's possible in your life.

So welcome to Episode 1. Living the Life You Imagine

So what would your life look like if you live the life you imagined? Think about that for a minute. How close are you to that life?  And, if you're not living that life or actively pursuing it, why not?

Are you waiting for it to happen magically? The lottery. Prince Charming. Miracle diet pill. Do you want people to start behaving the way you think they should? That's a fairy tale. That's not life. Life is about growing and expanding by deciding what you want, committing to it, and facing and overcoming the challenges that lay between you and your dreams.

Think about how rewarded you've felt when you've worked for something you want, and you finally have it versus how you felt when it somehow just fell into your lap. Yeah, you may have felt lucky or grateful, but did you feel as fulfilled and proud as you did when you did the work?

And I'm not saying that everything in life has to be hard or a struggle. I'm not saying that everything has to be a huge undertaking. I'm not asking you to run a marathon or invent the next iPhone, unless that's something that you're already imagining. But what I am asking you to do is to honor that little voice in your head that saying things like, "If only I could" or "I should have when I had the chance."  Because YOU CAN. And, IT IS NOT TOO LATE.

If there's something you genuinely want to do, get off the couch and make it happen. Be the kind of person who takes charge of their life and is willing to make an effort to have the life they imagine.

Don't be the person sitting around with friends, "wishplaning" - wishing and complaining. Yes, I made that up, but you've heard it before. And it sounds like this. "I can't wait for the weekend. I hate my job so much, but there's just nothing else out there. And it's the same everywhere." Or, "My house is a wreck, but I'm so tired I can't even deal with it. I wish I could just make it all go away." Or, "I wish I could lose weight, but I've tried everything and nothing works."

So instead of using that time and energy to create a change in your life, you're just sitting around, wishing for things and complaining about what's not working.

And this is where a little of that tough love that I mentioned in the trailer comes in.

There is no genie waiting to jump out of a bottle and grant your wishes.

There are, however, steps that you can take toward the life you want. And I've outlined those steps in the free Project You mini course that I created.  I'll give you a brief overview of the course here and there will be a link in the show notes, so you can download it and get to work on creating the life you've imagined.

So the first step takes you through an exercise that helps you get clear on your vision for your life. The Wheel of Life gives you a big-picture view of how you see your life. You'll rate the major areas of your life and decide where you want to make changes. And this is not me giving you a quiz and then ranking your answers and telling you where I think you should change. That's not my job. This is you taking the time to really examine how you feel about the major areas of your life and why. And you deciding what you want to do about it, if anything. (So a side note here. You may decide that you want to change several areas of your life. I want you to pick one. And I explain why in the course materials.)

The next step is to commit to your decision and commit from a place of love. Don't look at the commitment as punishment or do it from a punitive place. It's a promise that you're making to yourself for yourself.

Next, you make a plan. You sit down and think about where you want to be and you work your way backwards through the steps you have to take to achieve the goal. And I give you an example of what that looks like inside the course.

Now that you have your plan. The next step is to start taking action. You put aside the doubt and excuses and start working on the plan you outlined in Step 3.

Step 5 is to assess your progress on a regular basis. Build this assessment into your plans. And this is a check-in, it's not a time to beat yourself up. It's a time to determine if you're on track, in which case you keep going, or, if you need to make adjustments, in which case you revisit Steps 3 and 4.

The 6th step is to celebrate your wins throughout the process. As you're doing your assessments, celebrate every victory big or small, even if you have not reached your goal. Especially if you have not achieved your goal, because celebrating small wins along the way is positive reinforcement for your brain that even though it may be challenging, you're doing it. You're making progress. Even better, keep a written log of your wins along the way; that way you have evidence to look back at that proves you can overcome the obstacles that arise.

Those are the steps to creating the life that you want. Now you may have to cycle through those steps over and over again, if it's a big goal, but that's how you get what you want in life.

And if you have a big goal, it may take breaking it down into smaller goals to get there. For example, if you want to quit your job and move to Europe and open a B&B. That's a huge goal and there may be many steps that you have to take to get there. Perhaps you have to pay off debt before you can quit your job. Use the steps I outlined to tackle the debt and make that the first goal. Then once that is done, you start saving money and researching what it'll take to open a business in Europe. Once you have that plan in place and moving along, you can begin to scale down your possessions to get ready to move. You get the picture. So along the way you repeat those steps for each small goal and you will eventually achieve your big goal.

And you're probably thinking it'll take years to do something like that; maybe yes, maybe no.   But if you don't start, you'll spend years sitting on the couch thinking about your dream, pining, and wishing for a life you could be creating.

What do you think would feel better, working and taking steps and progressing toward your goal or sitting on the couch night after night thinking about it, wishing for it and hoping for it.

I promise you working for it feels more rewarding. You may have late nights. You may have setbacks and there may be failures along the way. There will probably be failures along the way. But you won't have the "what-ifs" or the regret of not trying.

So what if you didn't make it all the way to your big goal of opening a B&B in Europe? What if you only did the first three steps? So you've paid off your debt. You've started a savings. And you decluttered your environment. You'd have three pretty solid wins and the option of putting that big goal back on the table anytime you wanted.  So go for it!

We were not only given the ability to hope and dream, we were given the ability to make those hopes and dreams come true.
