Welcome to the Curate Your Life with Temetria podcast. Where we focus on curating the life you've been dreaming of one goal at a time. I'm excited to talk to you about today's topic, the incredible power of building unstoppable momentum by taking small steps.
Have you ever seen a baby take their first steps? They're wobbly. They're unsure. They're holding onto something; sometimes, they take little steps, and sometimes they accidentally take big steps. But they're taking steps. And I don't think anyone has ever told the baby that those first steps aren't good enough; that they're not going to add up to something.
We encourage those first small, wobbly steps because we know that they have to take those to get to the point where they can take bigger, more confident steps and where they can run and jump and do all sorts of things.
So why do we think that the small steps toward a goal that we set aren't good enough? Why do we think that we always have to have big, massive actions to reach a goal?
Think of life as a big adventure, and your goals are the treasures waiting for you at the end. It's easy to get overwhelmed when you see the entire map or the entire journey in front of you. But here's the deal: success isn't about one giant leap or one all-out sprint. It's about the dance of consistent small steps. It's a dance where each small step is a move that propels you forward to the next step. Think of it as creating a rhythm that synchs to the beat of your goals, and guess what? You're the choreographer.
Or think of it like a snowball effect. You start with this tiny snowball of intention or inspiration, and as it rolls, it picks up more snow momentum, growing bigger and gaining speed. Your journey towards your goal operates on the same principle. Those seemingly small, insignificant actions are your snowballs that build into that powerful force.
So instead of freaking out about the whole journey ahead of you, the challenge is to focus on the next step that you need to take. What is the one small move you can make today that will get you closer to your dreams? It may be a phone call, some research, it may be carving out dedicated time each day to work on whatever lights up your soul. Then, you want to celebrate the wins when you take the step, no matter how small you think they are. Let me tell you, celebrating those small wins is non-negotiable. Whether it's a happy dance, a high five in the mirror, writing it down, or talking to an accountability partner, or just taking a moment of gratitude. Acknowledge the effort because each small step is a victory worth celebrating.
And momentum is not just about the steps that you take. When a snowball is rolling downhill, it picks up more snow, and it gets bigger. The bigger the snowball, the greater the gravitational pull becomes and the faster it moves. And that's an important thing to be aware of.
Have you ever noticed that when you're putting in the effort and working on something and really into a groove and the flow, that things start to happen in your favor? The Universe seems to line up to help you. You have an idea, and you're starting to do some research, and all of a sudden, you meet someone who's an expert in that field. Or someone gives you a book that's related to what you're doing.
Or you're thinking about starting a business, and you tell a friend, and they say, “Hey, I was just talking to so-and-so, and she's looking for someone to help her with that.” If you had not taken that first step of sharing what you're doing, you wouldn't have made that connection. So don't discount the small steps.
There's that old Chinese proverb that says the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. So, I would love to know what steps you're going to take toward your goal. Come over to Instagram and find me; I'm coach Temetria over there, and let me know what steps you're taking.
And if you feel like you're ready to work one-on-one with a coach to make the most of each of those steps, schedule a consultation with me, and let's get you moving on your journey. You can find the link to schedule in the show notes. Until next time.
